Subject: Jangan lupa JASA terhadap TUN M!!!!!!
They will have a price to pay
by Ibnu Hakeem
On 11 September 2006, in a hard hitting speech followed by a
press conference at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in
Putrajaya, Tun DrMahathir Mohamad said that his defeat in Kubang
Pasu does not change anything. He is going to continue
criticising the government of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad
Badawi until the latter either changes his policies or quits. Dr
Mahathir accused Abdullah of incompetence, lying and
mismanagement and warned that 'they will have a price to pay'.
Contrary to the perception that Dr Mahathir has met his Waterloo
in Kubang Pasu, the former president of UMNO and Malaysia's
Prime Minister for 22 years is anything but defeated. Dr
Mahathir declared that he has just started to fight. "I have
lots of ideas how to expose them (the present leadership)" he
said. Mahathir seems totally unafraid. Berani kerana benar or
the 'courage of our convictions' seems to be his battle-cry to
expose the corruption, wrongdoing, mismanagement and abject
incompetence of the Abdullah Badawi administration.
Dr Mahathir said that considering the vast machinery and
resources deployed against him, including coercion of government
staff, he had actually won a moral victory in Kubang Pasu. "I am
just one man. Why are they so afraid of just one man?" Dr
Mahathir goaded Abdullah. Dr Mahathir said that much money was
used to buy the votes of the Kubang Pasu delegates. He then held
up a slip of paper which he said was given to him by one of the
delegates at the Kubang Pasu Division meeting of 9th September.
The slip of paper had listed out the candidate number of seven
candidates. The candidate numbers were 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 11 and 14.
His own number (1) and his son Mukhriz's (10) were missing from
the slip of paper.
Not surprisingly, candidates 2, 3, 4, 7, 8 and 11 won. The
seventh winner was Mukhriz. According to Dr Mahathir, the slip
of paper and RM200 was placed in an envelope and given to the
delegates. Dr Mahathir was amused that his other son, Mokhzani,
won the highest votes in the Merbok Division.
Some observers feel that after his failure to get elected as a
delegate, there will be a 'free for all' atmosphere at the UMNO
Assembly in November where Abdullah's supporters may take turns
to denounce Dr Mahathir. But Dr Mahathir hinted that he may go
on a road-show around the country prior to the November
Assembly. He seems determined to expose the wrongdoings of the
Abdullah administration which may undermine the Prime Minister
and embarrass him at the General Assembly in November.
The fact is Mahathir can seriously embarrass Abdullah even
without being at the Assembly. One of the many trump cards that
Mahathir seems to have is information. For example, he knows the
name of the corrupt ex Minister who was saved from prosecution
through political interference. He says that he will divulge
such information 'at the right time'. He also seems to know the
details about the 'sale of sand' to Singapore, including certain
parties who will benefit from the sale of 50 billion cubic
metres of sand over 20 years. He will also divulge this
information 'at the right time'.
Dr Mahathir said that for two years after his retirement he did
not say anything against the Abdullah administration. In 2004,
he campaigned actively during the General Elections and helped
Barisan Nasional win by a large majority. Unfortunately, Dr
Mahathir said, the running of Government since then had become a
family enterprise.
In the meantime, the PM continues to bungle along. He has not
recovered from the disastrous TV3 interview debacle. In the
latest bout of Abdullah Badawi's mind-boggling replies about the
Scomi controversy, the PM has said that Scomi has given him a
report on the matter of them winning Government contracts which
confirms what he had said about Scomi. In other words, the Prime
Minister has accepted an explanation presented by the very party
which is the subject of the controversy. Perhaps someone should
tell the Prime Minister that this is not only unacceptable but
stupid. You cannot be your own guarantor for a loan from the
bank. And neither can you expect the crocodile to tell you how
many people it has swallowed.
It is becoming evident that the PM's simple replies and childish
denials of 'I don't know' are becoming increasingly embarrassing
for his cheerleaders in Government as well as in UMNO. Many of
his bootlickers are finding the going getting real tough. Not
being able to improve the Prime Minister's lacklustre image,
Minister of Information Dato Zainuddin Mydin has instead tried
to bring down the image of Dr Mahathir with rather silly
statements like 'Lee Kuan Yew is smarter than Dr Mahathir'. Just
to make an incompetent Abdullah Badawi look a little less
foolish, Zam is willing to say that the smartest individual and
leader the Malay race has produced in the last 500 years is less
clever than a Chinese leader.
What Abdullah's cronies and sycophants fail to realise is that
Dr Mahathir represents the will of the people. The vast majority
of Malaysians, Malays as well as non Malays, realise that
Abdullah is a weak and incompetent leader. They would like to
have a better Prime Minister. This is the will of the people and
the will of the people will ultimately gain the upper hand. To
make matters worse for Abdullah, he is surrounded by
money-hungry and power-crazy people who are abusing their
positions. They are also able to easily pull the wool over the
PM's eyes because the PM is said to doze off too often at
official events. Even if Abdullah gets rid of the cronies and
bootlickers around him, it does not solve the problem that he is
an incompetent individual. This is the real issue at hand.
