The turmoil in UMNO Cheras was purportedly created by Wanita
Chief for inciting members to contest for the coveted seven slot
as delegates to the UMNO assembly in November was regarded as
“played politics”, claimed by it’s Divisional Head Datuk Syed
Ali Alhabshee,
As a Cheras UMNO member I failed to see this as a reason for
Datuk Ali Habshee to hunt down Faridah based on inciting members
to contests”. Citing reasons as not to allow democratic process
only show the lack of understanding on what we call democracy.
To make matter worst Datuk Syed Ali Habshee resort in getting
leaders of the Pemuda and Puteri to back him up for the call,
asking Faridah to resign . Telling us now that Faridah fail to
act as the Wanita Chief is pointless. It would seem like Datuk
Syed Ali is creating excuses to substantiate his war against
Faridah. Has he even talked to Faridah before this, as he even
discusses the matter with Faridah prior to this. Now Syed
claimed Faridah has failed to fulfill her obligation after years
of holding the post - obtaining it under due democratic process.
To make things worst, we have Youth chief Syed Mehdhar Syed
Abdullah statement saying that when he was in his teens, Faridah
was already the Wanita chief. Now that he is almost 40, she is
still holding the post. “Surely it is time to give way to new
blood, to someone younger,” he said. All this reflected the
leadership quality of Cheras UMNO. I am very sure that the
Pemuda Head has nothing else to comment except citing aged as
the reason as long as the statement inclined to the call made by
Datuk Syed for Faridah to quit.
I should say – it’s politic, Datuk and believed Datuk Syed is
only trying to safe guard his position.

Open war erupts in Cheras Umno
By SHAHANAAZ HABIB
KUALA LUMPUR: A storm is brewing at the Cheras Umno
division with its chief Datuk Syed Ali Alhabshee
calling on his long-time Wanita chief to step down.
Syed Ali: ‘If people try to wreck the unity in my
division, I will go after them’ The division’s
Puteri and Youth chief are supporting Syed Ali's
call for Datuk Faridah Abu Hassan to quit.
But its Wanita information chief – perturbed by the
developments – has urged the women to “open their
minds and go back to the grassroots”.
Syed Ali claimed that Faridah “played politics” by
inciting members to contest for the coveted seven
elected slots as delegates to the Umno general
assembly in November.
The division traditionally picked the seven through
consensus and without contest.
“If people try to wreck the unity in my division, I
will go after them,” Syed Ali said.
He also claimed that Faridah, the national Wanita
Umno secretary, did not bother to attend the
division’s meetings, participate in their activities
or organised Wanita programmes for the community or
the wing.
“Even when single mothers approach her for help, she
sends them to me. It’s as if I am the one running
the Wanita wing. .
“The only thing Faridah does is to take some
division members for holiday trips here and there,
for example to Langkawi, Medan and Beijing.
Faridah: Long-time Cheras Umno Wanita chief has been
urged to step down “We don’t need people like her in
the division,” he said, adding that he had been
patient with her for the past eight years.
Puteri chief Norlaili Mohamed said that while she
owed her position to the Wanita and Faridah, it was
Syed Ali whom she had to turn to for direction to
steer the movement as Faridah was largely
unavailable.
“I tried to fix an appointment to see her. I waited
for six months and still couldn’t get a date so I
gave up,” she said.
Norlaili said the Puteri and Youth wings were moving
together with the division in carrying out the same
mission and vision in its activities but for some
reason the Wanita was not in sync with them.
“There is a gap. If we see the Wanita members, we
salam and kiss each other on the cheek. But there’s
no warmth between us,” she said.
Youth chief Syed Mehdhar Syed Abdullah said that
when he was in his teens, Faridah was already the
Wanita chief. Now that he is almost 40, she is still
holding the post.
“Surely it is time to give way to new blood, to
someone younger,” he said, adding that if Faridah
was always falling sick then it was best to allow
another person to do the work.
The division's Wanita information chief, Fauziah
Mohamed Amin, however, said it was unfair to
criticise Faridah for being sick and having high
blood pressure because it was only “for that
moment”.
“Faridah has done a good job for Cheras. But if
she’s busy, it would be better for her to
concentrate full time on her work at the national
level.”
She was discomfited that two strong leaders in the
division had declared war and the division had now
become the “talk of the town” in Umno.
